The Department in a Nutshell:

  • Services for children are offered in 2 lending rooms ( one for preschool through sixth form pupils, the other for upper form pupils), in a reading room and a toy library
  • The Department numbers a collection of 19,600 items of fiction and information literature.
  • It includes 20 volumes of encyclopeadia Children's Britannica, published in England, and 16 volumes of The Young Children's Encyclopeadia. They are abundant with illustrations.
  • Subscribes to 12 titles of periodical publications.
  • Readers’ attendance order and borrowing conditions are stated in the Library Regulations.
  • Per year the Department registers 27,800 visitors who are issued with 50,200 items of materials.
  • The books are lent out under an automatic loan system.
  • 7 internet workstations. Users can access internet and databases. Computer games are available. Rules how to use Internet and computer games.( In Lithuanian only).
  • Consulting and reference services are provided on all issues referred.
  • A beautiful Fairy-tale Sitting-room Nykstukas (Tom Thumb) offers a wide range of programs for young library users: plays, shows, concerts, summer cinema days. It also offers a permanent exhibition of the world's dolls in national costumes, too.
  • In the Reading Room the staff prepare meetings with children's writers, publishers, interesting people. Other activities include competitions and quizzes.
  • An exhibition program offers displays and presentations of children's photography works, paintings, craft creation, and more.
  • During library tours visitors are introduced to the library, its facilities and vast collections of toy holdings and dolls.
  • The library cooperates with regional schools, kindergartens and other cultural institutions.
  • The library offers copying, scanning and printing services
